The MESACLIP project, using the Derecho supercomputer at NSF NCAR’s Computational and Information Systems Lab (CISL), overcame historical climate modeling limits to generate a six-petabyte dataset. This dataset offers the highest-resolution focus on the Earth system to date.
MESACLIP's clearer climate data reconstructs 4,500 years of climate history and future projections, often challenging earlier assumptions. For example, early findings suggest Atlantic currents may still protect Europe from extreme cold, a detail missed by coarser models.
