Attend a colloquium about cloud droplet spectra broadening — refreshments served for in-person guests!

November 24, 2025

On Thursday, December 11, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm MT, join the Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Laboratory (MMM) at NSF NCAR for a seminar with Dr. Wojciech W. Grabowski. The talk is entitled: “Broadening of adiabatic droplet spectra through eddy hopping: Polluted versus pristine environments.”

The observed widths of cloud droplet spectra in natural clouds have long been a puzzle, as they are often much wider than predicted by simple adiabatic parcel calculations. Dr. Grabowski will present a study using a 1D Eulerian updraft model with Lagrangian particle–based microphysics to investigate the impact of cloud turbulence on droplet formation and diffusional growth, particularly in contrasting pristine versus polluted conditions.

The event is hybrid: virtual participants can watch the live webcast here, and submit questions by Slido; while in-person participants can join at the NSF NCAR-Foothills Laboratory, 3450 Mitchell Lane, room FL2-1022, the Large Seminar Auditorium. Refreshments will be served starting at 1:45 pm MT. Please also join colleagues for refreshments and informal discussion after the seminar until 3:30 pm MT.
