Participate in a colloquium on the history of the High-Altitude Observatory

October 1, 2025

On Wednesday, October 15, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. MT, join the High Altitude Observatory (HAO) for an in-person colloquium. The talk is entitled "The Observatory at Climax: Art, Science, and the History of the High-Altitude Observatory."

Hanna Rose Shell, a historian of science and art at the University of Colorado Boulder, will tell the story of the establishment of the Fremont Pass Station (the first name given to the High-Altitude Observatory) by Walter Orr Roberts in 1940.
