On Wednesday, September 10, from 3:00 to 4:30 pm MT, join the Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Laboratory (MMM) at NSF NCAR for an in-person and virtual seminar. The talk is entitled "MPAS Modeling of an Antarctic Mass Loss Event."
Dr. Jordan Powers, a scientist with NSF NCAR’s MMM, will discuss a significant pressure drop over Antarctica in 1988 that signaled widespread mass loss. The event occurred during the Southern Hemisphere's Semiannual Oscillation (SAO) and was associated with strong offshore lows that reinforced climatological katabatic flows. The study revisits the event using the high-resolution Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS).
This is a hybrid event: virtual attendees can join by
live webcast and ask questions via Slido. For in-person guests, the seminar will be held in the NCAR-Foothills Laboratory at 3450 Mitchell Lane in room FL2-1001, the Small Seminar Auditorium (note special day, time, and room). Refreshments will be served at 2:45 pm; refreshments and informal discussions will also follow the seminar until 4:30 pm.
