While the Sun appears still to the human eye, its atmosphere is actually alive and riddled with activity known as Space Weather. This activity puts our increasingly vulnerable technological society at risk. Thanks to the magnifying power of telescopes, we are able to monitor the Sun in more detail than ever before. In this talk, scientist Rebecca Centeno Elliott, of NSF NCAR’s High Altitude Observatory, will explore these magnetic forces, their evolution, and whether they will trigger the next big solar eruption.
