Join a free lecture at Longmont Museum, “Keeping an eye on the sun’s magnetism”

March 12, 2025

On Thursday, March 27, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm MT, join the hybrid lecture, “Keeping an Eye on the Sun’s Magnetism,” with scientist Rebecca Centeno Elliott.

While the Sun appears still to the human eye, its atmosphere is actually alive and riddled with activity known as Space Weather. This activity puts our increasingly vulnerable technological society at risk. Thanks to the magnifying power of telescopes, we are able to monitor the Sun in more detail than ever before. In this talk, scientist Rebecca Centeno Elliott, of NSF NCAR’s High Altitude Observatory, will explore these magnetic forces, their evolution, and whether they will trigger the next big solar eruption.

The audience for this event can watch either online, or in-person at Colorado's Longmont Museum. For those attending in person, reservations are recommended. For those joining online, see this page for multiple ways to watch.

This is a free public event for ages 12-plus. It is part of the NSF NCAR Explorer Series, as well as Longmont Museum’s Thursday Night series.
