Dear HPC Users,
We are excited to open Derecho, our new supercomputer at the NCAR's Computational & Information System Lab (CISL), to all users after a successful ASD project period. This milestone results from the hard work and dedication over multiple years of the NCAR project team. Derecho, the third supercomputer at the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center, offers about 3.5 times the computational performance of Cheyenne, our previous system. It also provides general-purpose GPU accelerators, which account for roughly 20% of its overall performance.
We will continue to operate Cheyenne until December 31, 2023. However, we encourage you to migrate your workflows to Derecho as soon as possible. Please start with the
system documentation, and don't hesitate to use the
NCAR HPC User Group's #derecho-users Slack channel or
rchelp.ucar.edu for support requests. To help with the transition, CISL is hosting training sessions throughout the month. These sessions are designed for users migrating from Cheyenne and will be held across the NCAR Labs in hybrid mode. We invite you to
register for one of these events, including morning presentations and hands-on assistance in the afternoon.
If you're working on a Cheyenne project and want to move to Derecho, you can
request a core hour transfer through the Advanced Research Computing Portal.
We look forward to seeing your research results from the work on Derecho and are here to support you while you transition to our new supercomputer.
Sincerely,
Thomas Hauser
