Ever wonder where NSF NCAR's data actually lives? Come find out at this talk on Boreas, NSF NCAR's new on-site object storage system. Yes, it's basically our own homegrown version of "the cloud" (minus the monthly bill and the mystery about where your files actually are). If terms like "object storage," "S3," and "buckets" sound like something out of a hardware store rather than a data center, you're exactly who this talk is for. We'll walk through the jargon together in plain language. By the end you'll actually know what a "bucket" is, what an "object" is, and most importantly, how you can actually use Boreas for your own work. No prior cloud, S3, or storage experience is required. Come for the "aha, that's what a bucket is" moment, stay for the practical know-how on getting the most out of NSF NCAR's newest storage system.

About the series: The GDEX Discovery Series is held on a monthly basis. It is open to everyone, including both internal team members and external community partners. After a quick, five-minute introductory GDEX overview, we will cover our main 15-minute topic of the month. The remainder of the hour is completely driven by you. We welcome all of your questions, feedback, and future suggestions. If the Q&A wraps up early, we will transition into a live demonstration and example walkthrough, with optional breakout rooms available for deeper side conversations.
