NSF NCAR and CISL staff have recently released the
Open OnDemand platform. Open OnDemand (OOD) is a web-based HPC portal that provides access to NSF NCAR's computing resources through an intuitive graphical user interface.
The platform includes means to assess current job statuses, submit jobs, open a shell, start a VNC or remote desktop session (Casper only), or start an interactive application, including a Jupyter Lab instance or VS Code server. All from a web browser. Please review the
documentation pages for OOD here for more information.
New and existing NSF NCAR HPC users are encouraged to explore and try the new portal. As a new service, we also invite users to
complete this feedback form with any suggestions or bug reports. Users may also join the NCAR Compute and Data Commons (NCDC) Slack channel
#Open-On-Demand to discuss use cases or raise questions about the portal.
Please note that historical access methods to JupyterHub will be deprecated by the end of 2026 in favor of using Open OnDemand instead. As always, personalized support requests may also be submitted to the NSF NCAR Research Computing Help Desk at
rchelp.ucar.edu.
Development of the portal is ongoing and new features or services may be added in the future. We appreciate your patience and feedback while improvements are continuously being made and rolled out to the NSF NCAR HPC community.
