Join a seminar on rain microphysics—refreshments served for in-person guests

February 2, 2026

On Tuesday, February 10, at 3:30 pm MT, join NSF NCAR’s Earth Observing Laboratory (EOL) for a seminar entitled “A Variational Framework for Estimating Rain Microphysics from Dual-Pol Radar Observations.” The speaker will be Nicholas Barron of Aeolus Labs.

This seminar introduces a new variational framework that uses dual-pol radar to infer "unmeasurable" storm thermodynamics. By coupling S-POL radar data with the EXMIRAS bin-microphysics model, researchers can now estimate critical evaporative cooling and droplet processes. Join us to see how this work advances our ability to retrieve thermodynamic data from radar observations.

For in-person participants, refreshments will be available at 3:15 pm MT.

The event takes place at the NSF NCAR-Foothills Laboratory, in the Large Seminar Auditorium, FL2-1022, located at 3450 Mitchell Lane. For virtual attendants, the seminar will be webcast live, with questions via Slido.

For more information, see the event flyer or contact organizers. All recorded EOL seminars are also available on the NSF NCAR EOL YouTube Channel.
