On Thursday, December 4, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm MT, join the Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Laboratory (MMM) at NSF NCAR for a seminar with Dr. Mingyue Tang from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. The talk is entitled: “Cold Pools, Breezes, and Monsoons: Propagating Convection over New Guinea.”
Dr. Tang's research highlights the critical role of multi-scale density currents and hybrid land breezes in sustaining precipitation far offshore. This seminar will examine the physical mechanisms behind the pronounced offshore propagation of diurnal convection near New Guinea, utilizing two decades of GPM satellite observations and high-resolution WRF simulations.
The event is hybrid: virtual participants can
watch the live webcast here, and submit questions by Slido; while in-person participants can join at the NSF NCAR-Foothills Laboratory, 3450 Mitchell Lane, room FL2-1022, the Large Seminar Auditorium. Refreshments will be served starting at 1:45 pm MT. Please also join colleagues for refreshments and informal discussion after the seminar until 3:30 pm MT.
