Read the article: New GDEX Data Commons unifies Earth system science research

Last Tuesday, NSF NCAR launched the Geoscience Data Exchange (GDEX), a new initiative that unifies three data repositories into a single, comprehensive research data commons. 

A new article in CISL News explores the origins of GDEX and its potential future impact, both within NSF NCAR and beyond. According to CISL Director Thomas Hauser, GDEX "empowers users to access NSF NCAR's data from a consistent location, tap into our high-end computing capabilities, and focus on their science." 

Doug Schuster, the section manager of CISL's Information Science and Services (ISS) division, noted that GDEX "in many ways makes AI possible, because you can’t do AI without data to feed the AI."
