On Thursday, May 8, at 2:00 PM MT, join the Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Laboratory (MMM) for a seminar entitled “Improving Climate Model Bias and Variability via a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-Based State-Dependent Model-Error Correction.”
Systematic biases and variability errors present a significant challenge in climate and weather models, limiting their predictive skill. Dr. Will Chapman will explore how these errors arise and how data assimilation can diagnose and correct them.
The seminar will be held in a hybrid format. For in-person participants, refreshments will be served at 1:45; informal discussion with refreshments will take place after the seminar until 3:30pm. Join in-person at NSF NCAR-Foothills Laboratory at 3450 Mitchell Lane, room FL2-1022 (the Large Seminar). It will also be
webcast live; virtual attendees may ask questions during the seminar via Slido.
