On Wednesday, April 30, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. MT, join NSF NCAR’s High Altitude Observatory (HAO) for a live seminar. The talk, entitled “The Systems Approach to the NOAA Satellite Observing Systems Architecture (NSOSA) Project,” features speaker Mark Maier from the University of Utah.
From 2014 to 2018, NOAA's NSOSA program studied alternative approaches to environmental observation satellites following the GOES-R and JPSS family. The study examined a wide range of alternatives, from legacy continuation to restructured technical and business architectures. The talk will describe applying systems architecture and engineering methods to this large study, including stakeholder analysis, value model formulation, alternative generation, and cost-benefit assessment. The seminar will also discuss applications of the study and lessons for other analyses.
