On Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM MT, join NSF NCAR’s Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology (MMM) department for a special seminar marking the twentieth anniversary of the revolutionary Super-Droplet Method (SDM).
Dr. Shin-ichiro Shima of the University of Hyogo will present "Recent Advances and Applications of Lagrangian Particle-Based Cloud Models," reflecting on the SDM's journey from a novel concept to a widely adopted tool in atmospheric science. Dr. Shima will delve into the SDM's Lagrangian particle-based approach, its advantages over traditional Eulerian methods, and its impact on modeling cloud microphysics. Discover how SDM, born from cutting-edge supercomputer research, simulates cloud phenomena from aerosol to convective scales.
Participants can attend in person at the NSF NCAR-Foothills Laboratory, FL2-1022, Large Seminar, 3450 Mitchell Lane, or
join the live webcast. If joining in-person, refreshments will be served starting at 1:45 PM, and informal discussion will follow the seminar until 3:30 PM. Webcast participants can ask questions via Slido.
