The
Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS), developed by the U.S. National Science Foundation National Center for Atmospheric Research (NSF NCAR), is a flexible, next-generation atmospheric model that accurately models regional and global weather. MPAS helps bridge the gap between high-resolution regional weather modeling and low-resolution global climate modeling.
In a new NCAR News article entitled “
The Rise of MPAS,” NSF NCAR Director Everette Joseph is quoted as saying: “We believe in [the potential of MPAS] to help connect the weather and climate research communities… [and] improve our ability to predict how climate change will affect severe weather at the community scale.” Adds Joseph: “This is what community modeling is all about.”
