Cheyenne Retirement and Migrating Scratch Data from Cheyenne to Derecho

As part of the upcoming retirement of Cheyenne, users should take note of several important dates, policies, and optional procedures for scratch data migration:

  • Cheyenne’s scratch file system will only be accessible until February 29, 2024.
  • Cheyenne will run its final job on December 31, 2023.
  • Therefore, effective November 1, 2023, Cheyenne will have a decreasing scratch availability window. Files written on or after this date will only be accessible through February 2024, a shorter duration than the typical 120-day purge policy would allow.
  • Consistent with usage as job temporary storage, CISL has no plans to migrate user data from Cheyenne’s scratch file system. For users interested in migrating their scratch data in its entirety to Derecho, see these detailed instructions.
