WaterSoftHack 2026 - Inclusive Cyberinfrastructure and Machine Learning Training to Advance Water Science Research

March 24, 2026

Applications are open for WaterSoftHack 2026 scheduled virtually July 20 to July 31, 2026 with deadline March 31, 2026.

The WaterSoftHack initiative aims to cultivate the workforce that creates, utilizes, and supports advanced cyberinfrastructure (CI) workflows and tools to enable and potentially transform fundamental water science education and research. This is a multi-year NSF-funded project, dedicated to advancing water science research and education through the synergistic power of CI and machine learning training.

Week 1 is free and open to everyone, offering foundational training in cloud and edge computing for water science. Week 2 is reserved for WaterSoftHack Fellows, who will participate in advanced hands-on projects, receive personalized mentorship, engage in capstone projects and collaborative hackathon experience, and receive a $1,000 honorarium. Fellows will be selected through a structured process using a rating rubric, alignment of participant interests with faculty instructors, and mentorship from our dedicated team.
