Participate in a seminar regarding East Asian Mesoscale Convective Systems

March 23, 2026

On Thursday, April 2, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 pm MT, join the Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Laboratory (MMM) at NSF NCAR for a seminar featuring Taeho Mun from the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology. The talk is entitled “Bridging Satellite Observations And Convection-Permitting Simulations Of East Asian MCSs: From Microphysics Optimization To Future Extremes.”

Dr. Mun will discuss challenges in representing Mesoscale Convective Systems (MCSs) within climate models during the East Asian summer monsoon. The presentation explores how the Unified Forecast System Double-Moment (UDM) scheme can mitigate systematic biases and "spurious fragmentation" in convective simulations.

This hybrid event takes place at the NSF NCAR-Foothills Laboratory at 3450 Mitchell Lane, room FL2-1022 (the Large Auditorium). Refreshments are available at 1:45 pm MT. Remote participants can join a live webcast and ask questions via Slido. Following the formal presentation, informal discussion with Dr. Mun continues until 3:30 pm MT.

For more information, see the event web page, the event flyer, or the MMM seminar series page.
